Coming Soon - Breaking Barriers

What is Breaking Barriers?

If you have not seen the video above, take a few minutes and watch it. Breaking Barriers is the next masterpiece to come out of the mind of Ray Simon. This piece tells the story of the first four men to break the color barrier in the NFL.

The story of Jackie Robinson breaking baseball's color line in 1947 is one of legend. Every sports fan in America knows the story of Jackie Robinson. Fans usually don't know that one year earlier, Marion Motley, Bill Willis, Woody Strode, and Kenny Washington broke the NFL's color barrier and forever changed the game.

The signing of these four payers was later viewed as monumental stepping stones on America's path to racial equality.

The painting Breaking Barriers is Ray Simons' tribute to these four legendary athletes.

The Ray Simon Process

Whether the painting was commissioned like the one depicted here of Bruce Lee or if Ray came up with the idea himself, no paint touches the canvas until Ray does in-depth research on the subject.
To achieve these masterful works of art, Ray spends countless hours researching the person or event he wants to paint. He looks up every scrap of information that can be found and reads it all before conceptualizing what will be put on the page.
After completing his research, Ray begins to sketch his ideas with paper and pencil. Every intricate detail in his work started as a pencil sketch. After working diligently on the concept, it forms a mighty storytelling machine that is the final piece of art.
Every drop of paint on these prints has a purpose to the story Ray is telling. Facts from history that should never be forgotten.
